Why does Safe Cares Exist?

The simple answer: when someone in our company faces hardship, we step in and help.

The longer answer starts with a truth about the work we do at Safe. Every day, we build, sell, and service equipment for the people who Serve Others. Firefighters. EMS crews. First responders whose entire job is showing up for others on what could be their worst day.

Safe Cares is how we do that for each other.

What Safe Cares Actually Is

Safe Cares is a private charitable foundation that provides personal hardship and disaster relief to Safe Industries employees and the communities we work in. When a natural disaster hits, an employee gets seriously ill, a family loses their home, or a coworker faces a crisis they can't handle alone, Safe Cares is what makes sure they don't handle it alone.

The situations it covers aren't hypothetical. Every one of them has already happened.

A Look at 2025

Last year, an employee in Texas lost their home and personal belongings during devastating flooding. Safe Cares stepped in with emergency support to help them start putting things back together.

That same flood pulled several Safe employees into search and recovery work in their communities. Safe Cares covered costs associated with their deployment, so they could focus on the work instead of the bill.

Beyond those two moments, 2025 looked like this:

  • 3 employees received auto repair support so they could keep getting to work

  • 2 families received temporary rent assistance during hard financial stretches

  • 2 general support cases handled urgent personal or family needs

  • A Safe employee’s family received both financial support and community rallying during a season of hardship

  • Cancer benefit contributions supported a firefighter's family connected with Crabtree Ironduff Volunteer Fire Department in Oakboro, NC

  • Another cancer benefit went to a firefighter battling the disease in TX

Every situation looked different, but the result was the same: nobody faced it alone.

How It's Funded

Safe Cares runs entirely on voluntary support from the Safe Industries team, and it takes a few different forms.

The steady backbone is biweekly payroll contributions. Employees choose to have $10, $20, or $30 pulled from each check and put into the fund. It's small on any one paycheck. It adds up across the year.

Then there are one-time donations. When something big happens - a flood, a fundraiser, a family crisis - people give a one-time donation –what they can, when they can.

There's also PTO. Employees can donate paid time off to the fund, which converts to dollars that go to whoever needs it.

Every dollar an employee contributes gets matched by Safe Industries at $1 to $1.

Why It Matters

At Safe, we believe in serving people who serve others. That belief usually shows up in the trucks we build and the departments we deliver them to. Safe Cares is how the same belief shows up for our own team.

Service First isn't just a value we put on core value posts. It's what happens when someone across the shop gets word that a coworker's basement just flooded and they take the initiative to check in.

Built for Others isn't just about firefighters. It's about the folks working next to us.

Own the Outcome isn't just about the truck being ready. It's about not letting hardship land on someone alone.
