When OnCall Delivered to a Barge
When Dominion Energy wrapped its restoration of Lake Murray Dam's five intake towers, OnCall delivered three roll-off dumpsters to support the job—including one loaded onto a barge to reach the towers themselves. When Dominion Energy needed job-site support for the final stretch of its Lake Murray Dam restoration, OnCall delivered three roll-off dumpsters to the site—and getting one of them there meant more than a standard drop-off.
The project itself was a multi-year effort: replacing the steel headgates inside all five of the dam's iconic intake towers and rebuilding the brick enclosures on top of each one, work that ran from January 2024 through August 2026. Those towers regulate water levels and quality for Lake Murray and the Lower Saluda River, and they keep hydroelectric power generation running reliably for the region - which meant downtime wasn't an option and job-site logistics had to work around the water, not the other way around.
That's where the barge came in.
With the intake towers sitting out in the lake itself, one of OnCall's roll-offs had to be loaded onto a barge and floated out to the work site - a delivery method most dumpster companies never touch, but a straightforward call for a crew used to solving unconventional access problems across the Upstate. The other two units handled debris and material removal from the shoreline staging areas as crews wrapped up the brickwork and hauled out equipment.
With construction complete, Dominion Energy has put a permanent 200-foot no-boat exclusion zone around the intake towers, marked by buoys and enforced by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Crews are still spending the next several months clearing out temporary loading structures and floating docks near Lake Murray Public Park on the Lexington side, so upper-lot parking there will stay closed during cleanup.
